Accessibility

The Eaglewood Folk Festival is held each year on the property of The Eaglewood Resort, a wonderful facility that places special emphasis on the needs of people with disabilities.  For that reason, we are dedicated to making the Festival as accessible as we possibly can. Click on the links below to view the options available to suit your needs. Free admission is available for attendants.

Mobility:

In an effort to extend the enjoyment of our Festival to those persons who have a physical disability, all areas are wheelchair accessible so that everyone will have the opportunity to share the music, the camaraderie and the wonders of nature with us.

In all stage areas the grounds are flat with the main trails paved for easier mobility.  The buildings (including the barn) have no steps and are spacious enough to accommodate people using mobility aids.  In addition, we have some equipment on site that may be borrowed if necessary (Hoyer lift, wheelchairs, walkers, shower chair and canes).

The Eaglewood resort is a rustic camping resort with out-houses throughout. To make it easier for those with mobility issues, some of these out-houses have been adapted for wheelchair access.

If you are renting one of the cabins on site you will find that:

  • the bathrooms are large (6′ X 12′) and have a wheel-in shower (no tub)
  • the kitchen area has low counters and “wheel-under” stove and sink
  • light switches are lower, and electrical plugs are higher with enough power to recharge batteries over night

Hearing:

For people who are deaf or hard of hearing we offer ASL sign interpretation. This service is offered “by request“. If you, or someone that you know is coming to the festival and would benefit from this service, please contact our President, Denise Sheedy at sheedy@ils.net so we can make the most appropriate arrangements. Please make this request no later than August 10th, to give us time to make it all happen.

Vision

To aid people with visual impairments we offer our program book in Braille.  Although we do make a number of copies in each format as a matter of course, if you feel you would like one of these programs please advise us prior to the festival to ensure that a copy will be available for you.

In past years we had offered Audio and Large print formats as well but found the need was not there. For that reason, we have decided to discontinue the practice. A text version of the schedule is published on this site and can easily be printed off in any type size the user requires.

Eaglewood is hoping to arrange for Volunteers who will be trained to act as sighted guides to assist people to and from the stages.

Transportation:

It is now possible to get to our door from anywhere in York Region on the York Region Mobility bus for under $5.00 !! Anyone registered with any disability transportation service is eligible to ride with York Region Mobility. If your local service can take you to the York Region boundary you can arrange to meet their bus and transfer.

In the past, Eaglewood has had an accessible bus depart from Toronto on Friday night. Unfortunately, this year we are unable to provide this transportation. Please contact York Region Mobility to arrange transportation.

Phone York Region Mobility at 905-762-2112 or 1-866-744-1119 for more information or check out their web site at www.yorkregiontransit.com
