Luke Doucet’s fifth release on Six Shooter Records, Steel City Trawler, was rewarded with a second Juno nomination for Adult Alternative Album (the award was again taken by Neil Young). The album, described as “a late-’70s ride to the grocery store in a big, gas-guzzling Lincoln Town Car,” has attracted four-star reviews and earned a spot on the Globe and Mail’s Best of 2010 list. Luke is known for The White Falcon, his band and signature unmistakable guitar.
“Whip-smart, well-conceived and crunchy ... guitar rock and folk-flecked pop with a point. Best of 2010.” – The Globe and Mail
Melissa McClelland is known for bringing bloody-knuckled tales of blackouts, knockouts, bayonets and bad apples to life. She shared the stage with Sarah McLachlan during the Sarah & Friends tour, which traveled across North American all winter, and featured Melissa’s songs “Passenger 24” and “Brake” (a duet with Sarah), among others.
Melissa’s crystal-clear vocals and gritty tales are both pure and coy, recalling songbird Patsy Cline and storyteller Tom Waits all at once.
“Smokin’ hot” – Ron Sexsmith
“CanCon's most adorable married couple are also a likeably gritty rock 'n' roll duo…Didn't realize McClelland had an inner rock chick yearning to be freed, but it looks good on her.” – Toronto Star
“Rita Chiarelli… a voice that can growl at her demons or soar with the angels, a gift for
lyric, an ear for melody and the heart to combine them.” She is an accomplished singersongwriter,
a gifted vocalist and a skilled musician. Add to that a warm persona and a fine sense
of humour and you have all the ingredients for an outstanding performer. Rita Chiarelli’s style
defies definition. Although dubbed the goddess of Canadian blues by CBC’s Shelagh Rogers,
Chiarelli is equally comfortable belting out the blues; delivering her original material, crooning an
Italian folk song or wailing R&B or an Elvis Presley cover tune. At first listen it’s her voice –
that three octave range - that garners all the attention! But Rita’s songwriting is also outstanding;
three of her four JUNO nominations have been for albums consisting largely of original material.
It's been three years since One Hundred Dollars' first full-length Forest of Tears was released, long-listed for the Polaris Music Prize and lauded for its contemporary interpretation of country music. The band also earned acclaim for its moving live performance and ability to fit on any bill, whether indie, folk, or punk, touring Canada and the US.
This show involves a 13 member cast of Toronto Roots/Jazz and Rock musicians coming together to re-stage the music of the classic concert film The Band’s The Last Waltz.

With eight-albums to his name and a few hundred live performances every
year for almost a decade, singer-songwriter Brock Zeman is
well-established as one of the Ottawa Valley’s hardest working musicians.
All of this before the age of 30. He’s also highly regarded, having
earned praise from critics across the country. Exclaim! magazine says
Zeman “is a songwriter worth hearing over and over again,” CKUA hails
Zeman’s work as “intelligent, tuneful, heart-felt songs served up with an
authentic but understated style” and the KW Record says that “Zeman
doesn’t surrender an inch to any Texas singer/songwriter you care to name.
Closer to home, he has the chops to join the likes of Fred Eaglesmith on
the lonesome outskirts of town after the street lights come on.”
Alejandra Ribera, the rising-star daughter of an Argentine waiter and a Scottish actress. With her rich,
broad, eventful voice and a sublime flair for drama.
Her debut album, Navigator Navigateher , is an
earthy mix of world music, coffee house jazz, dark themes lyrically and timeless cabaret. Imagine Louis
Armstrong, Tom Waits and Chavela Vargas downing shots in a Barcelona bordello. “One of these days I'm
going to pick up and walk these blues away, just as soon as I get my feet back on the ground,” Ribera croons
in an 80-proof way on the sultry, brush-drummed Songsmith . “Until then, the rafters are where I am
bound.”
..DAVID BAXTER: GUITARIST, PRODUCER, PERFORMER, SONGWRITER “Canada’s T-Bone Burnett” takes country roots music downtown — “It’s always been about hurt and heartache, so you might as well dance”
With more than 30 years of songwriting, recording, producing and performing behind him, Baxter has earned a reputation as the “go-to” figure for Canadian roots music artists. “Think of me as a north-of-the border T-Bone Burnett,” he laughs, “a producer and player who, every now and then, puts out a record of his own songs.”
There’s a smoothness, a richness, to his multi-faceted musical life. If you want to call that a “gloss or sheen produced by age and polishing” you’re welcome to do so. There’s a lot of “heart” in Baxter’s songs, and a lot of heartbreak, water-under-the-bridge story telling that has a great deal of reality behind it.
Shining a modern light on the roots of North American popular music, Patrick Brealey blends elements of country, cabaret, early rock and roll, and blues to deliver lyrically driven songs with a uniquely powerful voice – reminiscent of days past while carving a distinctive niche in today’s Canadian folk scene.

David Ross Macdonalds finger-style guitar prowess, lush minimalistic compositions and captivating songs are reminiscent of the late 60’s and early 70’s British folk luminaries including Nick Drake, Bert Jansch and John Renbourne yet stylisticaly and uniquely his own.
“His acoustic melodies are mesmerizing (and) whether on record or in live performance, Macdonald’s music is both enchanting and compelling.” The Canberra Times

A. G. Olmstead captures the essence
of the vintage song. Part poet, part country boy,
Adam Olmstead’s writing and vocal styles are
reminiscent of old Jimmie Rodgers and Hank Williams

flirty and frolicking ditties to heartfelt crooners.

extremely appealing from every angle.

Dominique Fraissard hails uniquely from the mountains of Canada’s west and the long hot highways of his native Australia. There is timelessness to this music. His 6 and 12 string acoustic guitars and a potent pen sing with an earthy lilt and an urban edge, from the good green earth of his 1970’s childhood, up through the concrete and steel built on top of it.
He has opened for Jack Johnson, John Butler Trio, the Waifs, Bill Bourne and many others. BCIMA 2011 top 3 Finalist – Peoples Choice, Best Folk/Traditional Recording, Best Roots/World Recording and Best Producer.

Carmen Grace
It's kind of ironic the name Carmen means a song, and it couldn't be better suited for this little lady with such a big voice.
Carmen was born in northern BC where her parents and 5 brothers and sisters lived at the time. She grew up in a very musical home where everyone
sang and played an instrument, so it is no wonder she fell in love with music at a young age. By 14 she was singing at fairs, festivals, and rodeos through out
Canada and the US. She was also winner of the Colgate Country Showdown and opening act for the Elvis Impersonators Convention.
After graduating at 17 she moved to Las Vegas where she got her first real taste of the musician life style. She was part of an acoustic duo STEELE-n-GRACE
and fronting the cover band THE CRUSH. Carmen says " she is sure of one thing, whether just playing some songs around the camp fire or
performing in front of hundreds of people, singing was what she was destined to do." She is now living in Sunderland On. where she is working on writing her first album

Members include Rod Mazloomi on guitar, Mateen Mehri on drums, Tyler Richardson on bass, Matei Iliescu on synth and Lucas Richardson on vocals and guitar. Of Paradise hopes to help develop the euphoric atmosphere that is associated with the Eaglewood Folk Festival and to play music which the likes of have never been heard before.
