Press Release - July 31, 2007For Immediate Release Exciting New Albums From Eaglewood ActsOne of the most exciting parts of the summer festival season is the arrival of new albums from festival favourites. Folk festivals are a wonderful opportunity for performers to play for new audiences and many acts take advantage of that fact to release new albums. The Eaglewood Folk Festival, already known for booking exciting fresh Canadian roots acts, is hosting several performers this year with brand new albums. Leading that list is the indie-art-pop-noir-cabaret sensation, Claire Jenkins Avec Band. Jenkins has been a mainstay on the Toronto roots scenes since releasing her first album, Um, in 2002. She is following that up with a highly anticipated bilingual release called Crow's Nest/Nid de Pie. Unlike most studio albums released these days, with overused overdubs and manufactured perfection, Claire Jenkins Avec Band recorded the entire album, front to back, completely live-off-the-floor. No small feat for a six piece band, complete with glockenspiel, accordion, violin & cello. The orchestration and arrangements evolved through a regular house gig at Toronto's The Supermarket and hard work with producer Don Kerr (The Rheostatics, Ron Sexsmith). The result is a beautiful nautical song cycle slated for release on September 10 (at The Supermarket), but available pre-release at Claire's only festival appearance this summer, The Eaglewood Folk Festival. Another rising star is The Undesirables, a magical acoustic duo originally from Georgetown, ON. Drawing from a mutual love and respect of blues, R&B, gospel and classic rock, Corin Raymond and Sean Cotton have developed a completely unique and exciting sound that is winning them fans across the country. Imagine Tenacious D meets Otis Redding. In June, they released their sophomore release, Doghouse Dreams (NNNN - Now Magazine), to a sold-out crowd at Toronto's Hugh's Room. Produced by David Baxter (Justin Rutledge, Bob Snider), this album has helped solidify The Undesirables as trailblazers of an exciting new Toronto roots sound. The album is sure to be a hit at Eaglewood, where The Undesirables stole the show last year. Friday night's concert lineup is packed with acts with new albums. York/Durham region favourites, Sourpuss, are putting the final touches on their new release which will come out just in time for the festival and it will satisfy their fans who wanted more after their first release, One Meat Ball. Cellist Alyssa Wright has been promoting her beautiful new CD, Dark Waters, released in March 2007. Roots/rock/reggae legend Cris Cuddy (Max Mouse and the Gorillas) will be bringing his new album, Heartbeat, with a guest appearance by Nashville's Fats Kaplin, to the festival. And Peterborough folk-rockers North of Summer will be releasing The Gold Rushes, which was recorded earlier this year in the Wilfrid Hall, less than 2 miles from the Eaglewood Folk Festival site.
